The Climate Pledge signatories are leading the transition to electric vehicles and alternative fuels.

The challenges of increased mobility of goods and people around the world have spurred The Climate Pledge signatories to reimagine how we get around. Governments are phasing out the sale of new fossil fuel cars and expanding business imperatives for electric vehicles; over 20% of car manufacturers worldwide are now committed to discontinuing internal combustion engine vehicles.

A new transportation paradigm is emerging, thanks in part to the efforts of The Climate Pledge signatories. Uber, a pioneer in ride-share mobility, is now facilitating the transition to electric vehicles through targeted investments that make it easier for drivers to go electric. In sectors where emissions are difficult to reduce, radical innovations are required to enable the transition from fossil fuels. Signatories in sectors like aviation, shipping, and heavy industry are initiating the use of alternative fuels, including Schneider Electric and Alaska Airlines, who are using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and developing airplanes with partners that use hydrogen-electric propulsion technology.

Collectively, over the last five years, signatories have deployed over 50,000 electric vehicles, with a commitment to scale this to over 300,000 vehicles by 2030. These efforts are reshaping the economy, transforming how people and goods move, and how businesses operate.

Signatory Highlights:

- Alaska Airlines: Partnered with and invested in ZeroAvia, a startup focused on creating zero emission airplanes that use hydrogen-electric propulsion technology.

- BETA Technologies: Started building all-electric aircraft for transporting both cargo and passengers and installing multimodal electric charging infrastructure.

- Hewlett Packard, and Siemens: Committed to switching 100% of their fleets to electric vehicles by 2030.

- JetBlue Airways: Announced a new sustainable aviation fuel supply agreement with Valero to bring the first regular SAF supply to John F. Kennedy International Airport by the end of 2024.

- Mitie: Replaced 66% of its fleet with 5,065 electric vehicles as of March 2024.

- Rivian: Expanded its product line to include all-electric, affordably priced midsize SUV and crossover vehicles.

- Siemens: Conducted pilot purchases of over 3.6 million liters of sustainable aviation fuel in the United States and committed to producing more than 1 million electric vehicle chargers in the U.S. market over the next several years.

- Uber: Announced a goal to have only zero-emission vehicles on its platform in the United States, Canada, and Europe by 2030, and globally by 2040.
