T-Mobile knows that climate action is important to its customers and other stakeholders, which is why the company continues to set industry leading environmental goals. In January of 2022, T-Mobile became the first and only U.S. cellular provider to source 100% of its total electricity usage with renewable energy. T-Mobile is also the first in U.S. wireless to set a science-based net-zero target validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) using their Net-Zero Standard. Since announcing the net-zero goal in January 2023, T-Mobile has achieved a 30% reduction in total Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions since 2020.
To meet its ambitious 100% renewable electricity goal, T-Mobile invests in a diverse portfolio of renewable energy projects, including wind and solar farms. These investments not only provide clean electricity but also support the growth of renewable energy infrastructure in the United States. Notably, the company's nine large wind and solar farm projects and green tariffs are contracted to provide approximately 3.4 million MWh of clean energy annually, enough to power over 313,000 homes per year.
