The Climate Pledge has collaborated with Smart Freight Centre (SFC) to help electrify the Port of Rotterdam’s drayage operations.
The largest container port in Europe could soon be humming thanks to a new decarbonization project in the Netherlands. The Climate Pledge, Smart Freight Centre, and Maersk are collaborating to electrify the Port of Rotterdam’s drayage operations—the transport of shipping containers over short distances such as between the boat and a warehouse.

Decarbonizing global freight operations is daunting, but drayage is a promising place for Climate Pledge signatories to collaborate in tackling emissions by empowering companies to use more electric vehicles, improve charging infrastructure, and develop creative, effective financing solutions. Rotterdam is just the beginning; Smart Freight Centre wants to show how we can help electrify ports around the world.
