The Climate Pledge

A short film highlights the origins, mission, and world-leading sustainability standards of the Seattle sports and entertainment venue.

Climate Pledge Arena—home to the Seattle Kraken, Seattle Storm, and the best in music and live entertainment—opened its doors three years ago this week. In just 36 months, the venue is now the first arena in the world to receive the International Living Future Institute’s Zero Carbon Certification (October 2023) and the first west coast arena to be awarded the TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) Platinum Certification (April 2024). The building is 100% electric, using 100% renewable energy—no fossil fuels—and operates functionally as a zero-waste arena with the highest waste diversion rate of any sports venue globally at the time of certification. The details are impressive too: the Zamboni is electric; the hockey ice is made from recycled rain water (the world’s first rain-to-rink system!); tickets double as free public transit passes; and the 19 kitchens, feeding 17,000 people per event, prioritize locally sourced ingredients.

Enjoy this short film to learn about the origin, mission, and world-leading sustainability standards of Climate Pledge Arena.
